Why Do Men's Bathing Suits Have Mesh Inner Liners?
I don't see a huge benefit to this. At the beach, those mesh liners often accumulate sand and small shells which leads to abrasion problems.
Thanks for your insight!
Thanks for the replies so far!
Since most of these men's bathing suits are "board shorts", they tend to be long in length. So there really isn't an issue with your junk falling into view. Lol!
I definitely will be cutting out those inserts more in the future.

mainly to keep a certain part from coming out and making an appearance when we least expect it to
The support is nice. I like them.
I’m not a guy obviously and I see your point but I would think it was meant to hold things in place. If you don’t like the mesh part then cut it out and see what happens. Things may fall out from places and then I don’t know what the next course of action is.
I think the mesh is there to provide an extra layer of fabric between you and the world, so for modesty, and being mesh it dries fast – nothing worse than walking around in wet pants – well, apart from maybe abrasion…
I agree, it’s to stop a certain ‘thing’ from ‘popping out’.
Even if boardshorts are long, your thingy can stipp pop out/be seen when you’re laying down or generally just moving about.
First, not ALL men’s trunks have linings. Competition swim suits are little more than stretch fabric bands. The only type of Board Shorts that I sell with a lining is one designed for Sailing. Our Uniform Board Shorts are not lined because they do not wrap, they hang from the swimmers waist.
Drawstring trunks are another story. I don’t know who designed yours but the swim trunks I
offer are lined with a purpose: structure and comfort. The structure aspect confirms to the
male physique and allows for active swimming with the trunks remaining on the swimmer.
The comfort objective is two fold since this garment is worn soaking wet and arid dry. The choice
of lining material (fabric properties) define this. If you trunks are trapping sand and sea shells, they may not fit you properly or the type of mesh lining is an extremely narrow weave.
As a US retailer of men’s swimwear, this concerns me greatly. The last thing I want to happen is to have scores of guys cutting apart their swim suits. We go to great lengths to make that mesh work.

Don’t cut the mesh out. About the only way you could get sand and shells in the mesh is if you put them there.
If you cut the mesh out or buy a pair of "I want to be a gangbanger" boardies, a Speedo type brief must be worn under the suit.
No underwear.
This leads back to the premise that since boardies can be worn out in public, the USA should have rules just as in parts of Europe. Speedo brief or no entry into a pool. I know the thumbs down are coming, but this is my opinion. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.
I never heard of any guy that doesnt cut that stupid liner out. They are so annoying. Borad shorts are better than trunks to. By far the most comfortable are speedos or jammers. they are the best swim wear out there.
Mesh liners date from a time when bathing shorts were actually short and are not needed in today’s extra long droopy drawers.
Real men wear speedos.
I don’t wear swimming trunks because they gotten so long and baggy they’re not comfortable. I am a man, but I choose to wear a woman’s one piece swimsuit, the crotch space of speedo moderate woman’s swimsuit is the same as man’s speedo briefs, but I like the chest coverage of woman’s swimsuit because I burn real easy. And its pretty darn comfortable.
