I was thinking more of another Andy Kaufman. Like Sasha Baron Cohen (the comedian playing Borat), Andy took his comedy to the people. He would spend great amounts of time setting up a joke, and then let the audience hang themselves with it. Sasha does the same thing. You are right that most of his bigotry is designed to show the rest of us how stupid bigotry is in the first place. It is designed to illustrate how ridiculous we all are. Borat is probably the most original character to emerge in comedy in a long time. It is a shame too many people can't understand the satire. Archie Bunker is an interesting choice. He is out of line and unfair to portray Kazakhs as viciously anti-semitic and misogynistic. If he had real guts he would mock Iran or the Taliban, or another country with a larger diaspora who could create more of a protest about him in the UK and US.
