HUGO IS PURE FILMAKING!…ONE OF THE BEST GOOD LOOKING FILMS I EVER SEEN!!!!!…CONGRATULATIONS MR SCORSESE, YOU SCORED ANOTHER ONE!!!!
@ceratoidegus U kidding me? Movies are all about storytelling. I understand the difference b/w plot and story. Again, it’s about the style and technique. Fincher could make Facebook into a thriller…that’s a style of story telling the plot. U read a book, but people can interpret it in different ways. Same with movies. Movies is all about storytelling, and Scorsese’s way is not better than other directors. Period.
@Gaston088able Hey buddy, writing in all caps is yelling. Typing 101. 2nd, films are all about storytelling. Fincher can direct Casino in a much better way. Period.
@chukkkles jaja if you hate so much scorsese…why are you searching hugo in youtube and making the trouble of writing?…it is ok if YOU DONT LIKE SCORSESE…but you dont understand nothig about filmaking if you can see the diference betwwen plot and story….THE WAY CASINO AND GOODFELLAS ARE NARRATED IS DELICIOUS….search in google “peter jackson + goodfellas” or “alexander payne + casino”…why those filmakers love those movies if they are so bad???? you are smarter than they?
@chukkkles …maybe you dont get RAGING BULL OR THE AGE OF INNOCENCE OR THE LAST THEMPATION OF CRHIST OR TAXI DRIVER…to name a few….and nobody is saying that scorsese narrative is better than everyone else…but it is not worse either!!!!….CASINO has no flaws in the narration! fincher can make a bettter job in casino? IF casino is so bad, why peter jackson said: “GOODFELLAS and CASINO are examples of what great filmaking is….”…..
@chukkkles …WAIT, I FOUND PETER JACKSON INTERVIEW, THIS ARE HIS EXACT WORDS: “Several films by Martin Scorsese — I’m a huge fan of his — but at the top I would say Goodfellas, probably, as my favorite Scorsese film. That’s a movie that I always see when I feel that my imagination is kind of stuck and trapped, and I can’t think of a way forward. I watch Goodfellas and suddenly it frees me up entirely; it reminds me of what great film directing is all about.”
@chukkkles personally i love goodfellas but it isent in my top 3 favorite scorsese films….my top 3 of his are : 1-RAGING BULL, 2-THE LAS THEMPTATION OF CRHIST, 3- (Its a tie between) THE AGE OF INNOCENCE/TAXI DRIVER….i cant believe that you are mocking about the narration of goodfellas and casino when it is extraordinary….the intensity of both films and the amount of information of the sotries are incredible!!!!…like i said earlier, maybe you dont like “voice over” narration!
@chukkkles sorry if my english is bad…is my 2 languague!…Scorsese is great for the powerfull real human stories about characters that he makes, ( not characters that seems cartoonish or formulastic like most filmakers of today are doing, im looking you michael bay, zack snyder, etc) also look the amount of actors in his films that has been nominated for oscars and the ones who did won it, his versatility, his technical kwnolodge, very complete filmaker!
@chukkkles FINCHER IS A GREAT NARRATOR WITH GREAT KWNOLODGE OF TECHNIQUE…BUT HIS FILMS ARE ABOUT PLOT….HIS CHARACTERS HAVE THE INNER DEEP OF A MTV CLIP!!!!….IF YOU COMPARE FINCHER TO SCORSESE… YOU MAKE MY POINT, YOU ARE RETARDED!….”PERIOD”!!!!
@chukkkles OH ANOTHER THING…FINCHER DIRECTING CASINO??? JAJAAJAJ…YOU WISH!!!!….WHY SCORSESES FILMS ARE CHOSEN BY TOP CRITICS IN THEIR LIST OF THE BEST FILMS OF THE DECADES SINCE THE 1970S TO PRESENT DAY???….YOU PROBABLY HAVE WATCHED 2 O 3 SCORSESE FILMS THAT YOU DONT UNDERSTAND… AND THAT PISS YOU OFF!!! JAJA!….SORRY! GREAT FILMAKING ISENT TO EVERYONE!…KEEP WATCHING FINCHER AND HIS MTV MOVIES! “PERIOD”!!!!
@ceratoidegus HEY…MALCOM MACDOWELL ALSO CHOSE “GOODELLAS”( AND FARGO) HAS HIS FAVORITE MOVIE!!!!….IS A SHAME THAT SOME IDIOTS DONT GET IT…(@chukkkles)….JAJA!
HUGO…SHUTTER ISLAND…THE DEPARTED…THE AVIATOR…GANGS OF NEW YORK….KUNDUN…CASINO…THE AGE OF INNOCENCE…GOODFELLAS…THE LAST THEMPTATION OF CHRIST….AFTER HOURS….THE KING OF COMEDY….RAGING BULL…TAXI DRIVER….MEAN STREETS….(15 GREAT FILMS)….AND GOOD ONES LIKE:
cape fear….alice doesnt live here anymore….the color of money….new york new york…DOC:
THE LAST WALTZ….NO DIRECTION HOME….SHINE A LIGHT….LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD,Scorsese overreated? I DONT THINK SO!
I LOVE this film. I can’t wait for the DVD to come out. I can’t wait to start reading the book.
@Gaston088able So I learned one thing. Never listen to a guy who writes in all caps. Moron.
@ceratoidegus Your english is fine boss. I am not saying Scorsese is bad. He’s a good director. I believe(personal opinion, hence my comment) there are better directors out there…today and in the past.
@chukkkles Hellow! i trully respect you opinion, you seem a guy who knows much about films! Look for me Scorsese is a legend, one of the best directors in history and one of the best in activity, im not saying he is the best, i think there isent a “best director” there is a grou of GREAT ones, but who can say that kubrick is better to welles, or hitchcoock to lean, or spielberg to scorsese, etc, etc… today i think DAVID FINCHER, is in more shape, Fincher is the best one right now.
@chukkkles Scorsese is a very good narrator, maybe not the greatest but look the narrative of TAXI DRIVER, RAGING BULL, THE LASTH THEMPTATION OF CRHIST, you cant take you eyes away…also for me and other filmakers the narrative of GOODFELLAS and CASINO ARE REMARKABLE, but it is true that not everyone like that style of narration, i respect that. SCORSESE IS GREAT for the stories, powerfull direct, honest way of tell them, stories about human condition in dark moments…
@chukkkles GREAT FILMAKING is about “story”, not “plot”, for ex. plot it will be like (memento) story (Raging bulll) the diference is that in “plot” the characters arent the main thing, the characters in “plot” are just “plot devices” they arent great(the characters)im not saying they are bad, but in “story” for me is the real power of filmaking, because is all about the characters study, the things that are in “real life” that shows a message or at least a reflection of life….
@chukkkles …that is what scorsese has been doing in most of his films(not all), and also i admire his versatility, look how many genres he has directed and making great job in all of them…religious, comedy( YOU MUST WATCH AFTER HOURS and THE KING OF COMEDY, trustme), gangsters, biopics, drama, thriller…
@chukkkles scorsese in the 70s and 80s where more about a film noir stage for the “looks” of his films MEAN STREETS, TAXI DRIVER, RAGING BULL, AFTER HOURS,THE KING OF COMEDY,..GOODFELLAS( OK IT WAS IN 1990 THIS ONE),but since part of the 90s from since THE AGE OF INNOCENCE to this days, he was changing the “looks” of his films, given more importance to the lightenting and colours, like IN THE AGE OF INNOCENCE, CASINO, KUNDUN, GANGS OF NEW YORK, THE AVIATOR, SHUTTER ISLAND, HUGO….
@chukkkles when i see the breathtaking visuals in cinematography of CASINO, THE AVIATOR, SHUTTER ISLAND and HUGO, i wonder why MArty wait so long to star to playing with the lightening and colours, because those films are beautiful, specially THE AVIATOR and HUGO that are 2 of the most good looking films i ever seen. I think since Kubrick i havent seen a director that uses cinematography so well (CLOCK WORK ORANGE, 2001 S.O, BARRY LYNDON, EYES WIDE SHUT) like scorsese….
@chukkkles …ok, not only scorsese… also, BOYLE, FINCHER, R.SCOTT, are directors with great eye for cinematography…ok that was all, i never wanted to fight with anybody here, REGARDS!
if some one watch the trailers of THE AVIATOR, SHUTTER ISLAND, HUGO, KUNDUN, GANGS OF NEW YORK, there is the prove that scorsese is not only a guy who direct actors, he is also a great craft director!
@Gaston088able Good reply. I agree with you on everything, especially Fincher. I guess our debate is mainly about our taste. And, I have seen After Hours…it was different from his other films.
